  • Non-profit animal rescue organizations in Indonesia

I feel very "relieved" and peaceful since I have lived in Vancouver, Canada.
I have been here only for a year and half and I find people really respect your freedom here, as well as caring for nature and animals

I was volunteering for BC SPCA office, website : http://spca.bc.ca/
for about a year helping with the administration in their donation dept. As a volunteer, of course I enjoyed doing the work, I love the friendly and charming staffs there, I even make some great friends from the organization until today!

I have found a lot of non-profit organizations all around Canada, including the ones to save stray animals, like SPCA, WSPA, etc, those are not including some other non-profit organizations for Breast Cancer, Seniors, people with mental disability, children, nature and community.

Anyway, I have been an animal lover for quite a long time, not a 100% true animal lover, I mean... I still consume meat and dairy products, though I don't wear any fur product.
Dogs are ones that mean the most (in addition of my mom) to me among all animals, I even plan to adopt dog in Vancouver later.
I have Daschund in Surabaya, Indonesia, named Brino, very affectionate though he's a trouble maker, I haven't seen him since 2007, here is his picture :

He's like my mom's lover there.... though he makes so much noise and doesn't behave very well, he's a adorable smart dog and we all love him. Unfortunately, we used to own 2 dogs, the other one was Fox Terrier named Aldo, however, since they fought a lot, causing a serious wound to each others (even to anyone who try to separate them while they were fighting), my mom ended up giving up the Fox Terrier one (I am still sad thinking about this, I love Aldo, too, and I hope he could had lived with me here in Canada, but couldn't afford his ticket ), here is his picture :

They are very lovely, aren't they??

Frankly speaking, I love animals more than kids... even humans *lol*

I used to assume that we lack of cares for animals in Indonesia, because most people don't have time to do anything else but working! However, surprisingly, I find 2 stray-animals organization in Indonesia, 1 of them where is in Bali, was built by Australian artist. I should introduce both of them briefly....

    911 For Dogs (Jakarta, Indonesia)
    Website (Indonesian language) : http://www.911fordogs.com/main.asp

Overall, this organization was built for the temporary care place for dogs before they get adopted. This is not a place just to abandon dogs (when you don't want them anymore). If you find any hurted, tortured, stray, starving dogs in the street and you can't save them, give them food, all you can do is trying to call them for help. I have never experienced how's their reaction to help stray dogs as I didn't live in Jakarta, but this is definitely a great organization, a first step for Indonesians to show that they CARE of animals (starting from dogs).

Again, if you live in Jakarta or around, instead of getting expensive breed dogs from pet-store, why don't you think of adopting dogs? Surprisingly, I think adopted dogs will understand you better than the ones you bought from the store. If you can't have dogs but you care about animals, please help this organization. I personally haven't been there but I definitely will when I visit Indonesia or Jakarta next time.

    B.A.R.C (Bali Adoption Rehabilitation Centre)
    Website (English) : http://www.freewebs.com/balidogs/index.htm
This one was built by Australian artist, Linda Buller, who has been working and living in Bali for the last 6 years. It is really touching to find out that actually foreigners who happens to stay in Indonesia cares more about the natures and animals compared to us. As we know, we must have seen many stray dogs walking around when we go to Bali, some of them were abused, killed for fur, and some were ended up in the menu. I have heard some Balinese kill/abandons their female dogs as they are not as strong as male dogs and aren't good enough to guide the factory, so they just throw them in the middle of the sea, I don't know whether this is true story but these are definitely facts as long as you can see :

Anyway, next time when I revisit Indonesia, I am very curious to check out these organizations. Have you heard about them, too?

If you know more about these type of organizations, please inform me and I will check them out next time.
I have just started working here in Canada which means... I'm not quite stable  yet, as soon as I feel more comfortable with my daily activities, weather and anything, I will adopt a dog, too
However, I babysit dogs of my sister-in-law's relative sometimes when they are away, just haven't really got time to have my own dog.

My friends, if you live in Indonesia, I really encourage you to check these organizations, or otherwise, don't abandon your dogs (no matter what happens, though he/she gets sick/unhealthy), and don't wear any of fur product, despite of its originality. In China, fur is really cheap so don't be surprise to find cheap fur product that may make you think they are fake. Fake or Real, just don't wear as I can't find the beauty of that. I understand there is nothing much we can do to help them (stray animals), it's good enough if you see them you may feed them sometimes, or call these organizations if you live around Bali/Jakarta, but never abandon your pets just because you get bored of them, OK?
